Default Might be burning oil

So my gs has around 144k on the ticker and I have never had so much as a check engine light come on. I surely have never had an oil problem up to this point. I just got back from a trip that I drove around 700 miles in about 4 days. I get in my car to go to work today and the oil light comes on.... So I freak out a little and shut it off immediately. I check the stick and there was not even a drop of oil on it. I put oil in and everything seems fine at the moment. I know I don't have a leak (kind of wish I did so it would be an easy fix) so I think I may be burning oil. I'm taking it to my mechanic tomorrow to see what's going on but I wanted to consult y'all before I did. I will admit I drive it hard but it has always ran perfectly. Any insight for this would be appreciated. I did some searching and found a few things but I just thought I would see if I could gain any more knowledge. Thanks!

You need to get more points of data.
Like, when was the last time you checked the oil or changed it? It could be the last oil change was short filled for some reason, or the particular brand/grade just had higher consumption.

Keep an eye on the oil consumption and you need to track just how fast it gets consumed.

Unless you have a big puddle of oil under your car, the mechanic isn't going to be able to do any magic for you unless you have that same info for him anyway. Anything he says will just be placebo and snake oil talk to send you home.

Try checking your car oil every morning. Keep data written down. Compare results between weeks. Let us know what happened bro! I hope your problem is resolved!

Are you sure you don't have a leak? There is a cover under the engine that may be catching leaking oil. If your car is burning oil that fast, you'll see the smoke. Higher mileage 2Gs are known to have VVT-i pulley leaks. I'd pull the upper timing belt cover and see if there is evidence of leakage from either the seals or the VVT-i pulley. Also, check around the valve cover gaskets, particularly in the plug valley. Oil frequently collects there when the valve covers leak (ask me how I know).

Is it a 300 or 400/430?

Our 300 uses a quart every 1000 miles with no leaks, been that way for over 5 years. Now my 400 uses no oil between oil changes at every 10,000 miles...

Take your upper timing cover off and look at the cam pulleys
