rear axle shaft
I'm trying to separate the rear axle shaft from the differential carrier and it doesn't seem to want to come apart. I have undone the six bolts holding the shaft to the carrier and I have also disconnected the hub assembly from the lower control arm so there is ample play to pull the axle shaft away. Any ideas?

you dont need to take the axle off to get to the vsv. just reach up there. im 6ft tall with the hands to match and i got up there just fine.
too many people make the vsv sound like hell. its really easy

Did you unbolt the canister and then change out the VSV up above the differential without taking the canister out all the way? Seems like you need to be seriously good with your hands. It also looks like the screw would be really tough to get at to remove the VSV.

i took out only the vsv.
the screw...its easier to get it started with some needle nose vice grips and then use a short stubby cross tip
im not a small guy either so the small hands statement is out haha

That axle shaft should be breaking free unless there is rust bonding the axle flange to the differential.
I would be smacking the side of that flange until it pops off.
Canister can not be removed unless you drop the differential or unbolt the axle from the differential, but I have been proven wrong before.
Good luck, don't give up you can do it...
