I am now a proud owner of a 98 GS400! One problem...
I just got it the other day. Super clean, Blk on blk interior w only 130k. Only problem is the telescopic steering wheel. I can't even get it to manually move. I searched on CL that it may be the motor. I checked the fuse and its good. Looks like the power seats and the telescopic steering share a fuse. I saw in the manual that there is a way to turn the steering wheel movement off, but I think thats just for the automatic thing it does when you put the key in the ignition. It said to disable this feature ask your lexus dealer which i'm not going to do. I can't even adjust it at all, and it makes no noise as if it was even trying to work. Any suggestions? or should i just grab a new motor for it? I read some guy took one apart and replaced the brushes he got from a place that rebuilds altenators. Just looking for some info before I dig in.. any help is appreciated.

yea i had this same problem and it went away for a while then just recently came back. mine was kinda related to it being rly cold. when its supper cold outside my steering wheel will move towards me but not down. kinda sucks *** having to drive like im in a transit bus. the dealer will tell you to replace the gear assembly which cost $1500. i had been studying the section for a while and i didnt see a simple motor that you could just swap out. best suggestion i got was to get sum auto grease and lube it up. there's a thread on here bout it....found it here ya go. try this before trynna replace motors n wut not
