MY very first car!! What do I do now?!?!
I just bought my very first car a lexus gs 300 '93, It had a bad interior but I fixed that up but there a few things that worry me!!.
1.My car sounds like a truck down the road I mean its engine cooling fan is loud.
2.It jerks when I change gear.
3.I have a squeaky belt only when it idles
4. the hood wont stay up anymore
and if there is anything that I can do my self that is relatively cheap ( i have most tools) please tell me I don't want the car to break down it has 200,000 miles on it.
Thank you so much

I just replaced the hood struts on my '94 gs300. Be sure to get the struts that also have the ball connector fitting, the part that screws into the hood and car. I did not and it was a pain cut the connector loose from the original struts. If you get the struts with the connector, or purchase the ball connectors in addition to the struts, changing them out are a piece of cake.

suggestions
well welcome to owning a car first of all and i must say you now own a car that was way ahead of its time in terms of the features it carries....
i just purchased one of these.....
well what do u do now?
here is a list of suggestions i can offer
my 93 gs300 is in shabby condition in my opinion...
i use the following site to get all my part number and i get everything on ebay... litereally
http://toyotamarket.ru/us/
i change my trunk struts..
ok.....
car jerks when u change gears...............
sound like u may need transmission mounts (they may be busted)
car sounds like a truck?
do a general service of the car and also get you muffler piping fully checked out
squeaky belt only when it idles
........ Belt needs to be tensioned... squeaking stops when load goes on it...
other suggestions....
well... do general service...plugs, filters (air, oil, gas)...
even if check eng light isnt on..... just check to see ifthere are any codes from ecu...
disconnect battery after doing all that and hold brake for about 15 sec..... reconnect and start car.. this resets ecu...
make sure all fluids are in and at proper levels... look for broken or lose wires
i would also suggest changing O2 sensors even if check engine light isnt on..... helps with fuel economy
i havent had my car a 2 months as yet and believe me, ive learnt so much already...
here is a list of things ive changed n will be changing...
maf sensor
tps
idle speed control
the whole air intake.....i installed a free flow
coolant temp sensor
plugs
distributor brush
need to replace speedometer cluster....
repalce trunk/gas tank lid opener
replaced head unit and all door speakers..
