I know that an antenna is needed for ES vehicles equipped with a navigation system and for the satellite radio system, but why is it that the ES with the pano sunroof has an antenna on the roof and another on the trunk while those ES without the pano sunroof only have the roof antenna? What is the function of the trunk-mounted antenna?

I believe an antenna requires a ground plane in order to function correctly and the glass pano roof cannot provide that so it is mounted on the trunk.

I can understand that, if the pano roof makes the roof an unsuitable location for the antenna, it might be moved to the trunk, but I still don't understand why the vehicles with a pano roof appear to have two antennas, the one on the roof that non-pano roof vehicles have and the one on the trunk.

The two are combined in the sharkfin antenna of the regular model.

Here is a question, why does the Canadian Ultra or Tech pkg as it called in Canada not have the sharfin on the Pano roof and just has the trunk antenna? Could it be that in US the sharkfin on Pano is 100% just for show?
