Recently had my windshield replaced due to a stone chip and, as suspected, RES+ antenna could not properly be re-attached to inside of glass. Basically, the adhesive left on the antenna is barely attaching the thin antenna elements. And, one of the antenna elements is so thin there is no way you could neatly apply more adhesive and make it look reasonable.

I suspect, the only proper way to return to original condition is to replace the RES+ antenna assembly, too. I'm pretty sure the antenna on the glass is hardwired to the harness that goes all the way to the control module inside the dashboard, although I hope I'm wrong.

Anyone with RES+ have to get their windshield replaced?

The antenna is separate from the connector blocks that attaches to them. Basically the connector has several spring loaded contacts in it that fit over the contacts on the antenna film. The connector is connected using adhesive tape on the edges and the contacts are in the center section. During the installation you install the antenna film first and then install the connector on the film in the correct position to align the contacts.

I would think that if you carefully remove the contacts by prying up on the edge you could reuse them by carefully adding some 3M double sided tape of the proper thickness along the edges and then refitting it to the film. Hopefully Lexus does sell just the antenna so that you can purchase only that part. If you had to replace the entire assembly with the connectors and wiring you'll need to remove the entire lower section of the right side dash including the airbag to get to the RES+ module.

Your description is very helpful.

Even if the entire antenna assembly needs to be purchased, I'd much prefer the dealer to only refit the antenna to the connector blocks as you describe. Since the glass and RES+ repair will all be covered under a no-deductible windshield repair policy, I'm not concerned if they have to purchase the entire assembly (shame on them for not making a more serviceable system attached to Toyota's notoriously vulnerable windshields!). My fear from the moment that stone hit my windshield was, "oh no, the passenger side dash board will have to be disassembled to properly fix the RES+". I sure hope you are correct!

Well if the dealer is doing the work you should be OK whether they just refit the connector or replace the entire harness. They have the experience to get it done without causing any collateral damage. Good luck with your repair.
