Panel cut out on rear doors on 300H ?

Panel cut out on rear doors on 300H ?
Anyone know why the rear doors have the curved design crease on the lower portion of the doors ? Looks like an access panel, but to what?

Question resolved
Dealer says it is a plastic chip protector applied to the door to prevent possible chips in the paint due to road stones striking that area of the door. That area of the door does curve out a bit so I can see the logic The leading edge of the body just to the rear of the door also has a vertical strip applied as as well.
