2007 ES350 - no sound from speakers
I have 109,000 miles on my 2007 es350, bought in May 2006.
This weekend, I drove 2 hours, stopped for a few minutes, then when I started the car there was no sound from speakers. Just 2 tapping noises from right rear speaker. Turning the radio off, then on I only heard the 2 pop sounds.
I left the radio on even though no sound. Monday night, starting the car for the 3rd time that day, the speakers worked. The next morning the speakers did not work. Now I just hear the 2 tapping noises, when the car is started or radio turned off/on, then nothing.
This happened twice before, once last year and once 4 weeks ago. Both times, the speakers started working the next day.
Has anybody had this problem? What was the fix and approx cost?
thanks,
Lisa

this says when there is a short in the speaker circuit, a fail safe kicks in and there is no sound anywhere. might be worth checking through circuits....also the last 2 pdfs 64/65 refer to a diagnostic function which is available and code meanings. tell me the codes and ill send u the appropriate sections. hope this is useful

The sound came back and has been working for 3 days. I am hoping it lasts...
nevernu, thank you for the diagnostic info. I saved it for future reference. Hoping I don't need it.

Same prob with 2011 IS 350
Same problem with a drivers side pop (except with my IS). But there was an obvious cause - i was using speech to text while driving(triggered through my phone so car's "phone" mode kicked in), music was already playing normally from the phone via BT, the car switched modes like it usually does, my speech to text was done, usually at this point the phone mode goes away, main speakers get back in gear and music continues. This time the music for some reason started again but it came from the "phone" speakers where all the audio is directed to the driver side and of course quality is very different. It sounded super blown as expected, then lowered the volume, turned off the car, and when i turned it back on, that popping issue just continued, tried to disconnect the battery to see if the system needed a reset but no luck. system wont recognize volume controls but other controls work fine. Interestingly enough the SOS feature play audio to the front passenger side

Just had the same exact experience described by OP. Two loud pops and no sound. Happened 2 years ago and the speakers worked intermittently. Upon starting the car, if the two pops were heard, then it was immediately obvious that the speakers won't work. If by some miracle there was no pop, the speakers worked fine. The speakers were permanently in working order after a month until today.
Am I looking at replacing the amp?
