Horrible seats in the ES?
Just got back from a 800 mile trip over to Kingman, AZ for my brother-in-laws funeral. We just traded an '04 ES330 for a '09 ES350 and this was the first long drive. What horrible seats in the 350. My gawd, my back was toast after 2-3 hours driving. It's a 6 hour drive each way. Any thoughts as to improving the lumbar on these? My wife was complaining after just an hour or so. I'd love to stuff a couple inches or more of foam into the lumbar area since the factory lumbar seem totally worthless. Anyone done such?

Not a good sign if both you and your wife find the seats uncomfortable. You could probably check with an auto upholstery shop and see if there is anything they can do. It could be more trouble and cost than it's worth. Might need to look into another car that works for both of you.

A good upholstery shop can do wonders but sadly, it will mean more $ to fix. Sometimes subtle changes can make a big difference and that is trial error. Adjusting thigh support, fore-aft tilt all those little bits have their part in overall comfort aside from seatback tilt, etc. We've all been in cars that immediately get us so hopefully you can work it out.

I also find it very helpful to firm up the lumbar support on trips. And yes, the lateral support sucks.

Did you try to adjust the lumbar?
I find Lexus to have to most comfortable seats out of any luxury brand. I have sat in and driven almost all brands and I think Lexus has the perfect balance between soft luxury and firmness. Other brands either go far too firm, or way too soft on the leather and foam padding.

Physiology is a tough nut to crack. No two bodies are alike.
I've been suffering with severe lower-back pain for nearly two decades, and the ES's seat gives me sublime relief, even on day-long trips.
As they say, ymmv!

First off, sorry for your loss.
Your seats weren't adjusted properly. I love my ES. The seats rock. Somebody at work sat in the back on the way to lunch one day and he commented that it was the most comfortable back seat he had ever sat in.
Were you perhaps stressed from the day's events? Any previous discomfort?
