inadvertent gear change
My son was in my 07 es350 (purchased in April, 2007) with me, having explained to him the manual gear shift sequence.
As I was proceeding about 5 mph, and without warning, he took it on himself to push the gear into park! I immediately heard a grinding sound and instinctively and quickly returned the gear shifter back to drive.
Does anyone have knowledge as to whether any damage was (or could have been done) to the transmission ?
I have not since heard any unusual sounds or felt any difference in the drive and am hesitant about bringing the vehicle into the Lexus dealer at this time.
Any positive suggestions, comments would be appreciated.
As an aside, the only problem I have experienced with the vehicle is the dashboard rattle which was quickly remedied.

My brother was driving my car and he is used to manual cars, so when he wanted to reduce the speed for some reason he thought that he was driving a manual transmission and was on the 4th speed and wanted to put the gear in the 3rd speed, so he shifted to park We heard the same grinding noise you are talking about. I took the car to a mechanic and was told that all I need to do is to change the transmission oil and filter as he said that some metal debris might be wandering in the transmission and if left would cause more damage. I changed the oil and got the filter replaced and the transmission lived for years and years.
Don't worry!
