Default Why set the time zone in Navigation system?

I'm assuming there is a clock somewhere, but I can't seem to figure out how to enable the display of any clock. So why have a setting for time zone?

The Global Positioning System, usually called GPS, is the only fully-functional satellite navigation system. A constellation of more than two dozen GPS satellites broadcasts precise timing signals by radio to GPS receivers, allowing them to accurately determine their location (longitude, latitude, and altitude) in any weather, day or night, anywhere on Earth.

And it doesn't work if you don't set the time zone? Under.

I set mine to the time zone 3 zones away, works fine, but no clock impact. I thought that maybe the digital clock was linked to it, but it does not.

On previous navigation systems (Acura, Mazda) it displayed a clock --- part of the signal received is a time signal and the time zone was set to display the correct local time (as an off-set from the satellite time, probably in GMT). The advantage is that it is an extremely accurate clock.

This Lexus display seems to be missing the clock.

Not a huge deal, but seems odd to have the settings option to me.

Well there is a Calendar function in the navigation. Maybe the time zone makes a difference?

I don't know about the Lexus ones but on the Prius, the timezones allow it to know whether to change DST and apparently when the sun sets, the map automatically changes to night mode. I don't have the nav so I can't confirm but that's what I read about when someone posted that feature.

I believe the clock setting is just for ETA estimates when using the GPS for trip routing.

Night or Day mode seems to be controlled by the headlights being on or not, with a manual override.

Hmm, could be a Prius thing then since US models don't have AUTO headlights, only Canadian models do.
