moon roof problem '02 ES300
My battery ran flat- car not run for a couple of weeks, driver's door accidentally left cracked open. AAA got the car running, but now the moonroof is malfunctioning. I tried to reset it per instructions on this forum (Ignition on, push and hold the tilt button) but it won't slide open at all. I does tilt up , then down, but it won;t slide. There is a "ratcheting" sound after it tilts down and would normally slide open. I hope things aren't screwed up somehow! Thanks for your help. -Richard

Maybe try pulling the fuse for a couple minutes with the ignition on, it's the power window and lock fuse located behind the coin tray. I'm not sure if this will do anything but it's worth a try.

I think the ratcheting sound is just the sunroof locking after it tilted down.
Does the motor make any noise when you try to slide the sunroof back from its closed position?
Also, (not sure if the 02 ES had this feature) will it slide open when you push and hold the unlock button on your remote (along with the windows rolling down), or twist and hold the key in the unlock position on the drivers-side? That could eliminate an issue with the console switch.

I took the car to an independent Lexus mechanic. He confirmed that the problem is a broken gear or some such. I will have him look at in detail when I have a few more bucks available. Currently, the roof is closed properly, so that will do for now.
