Default 98 es300 rear defrost doesn't work.

Hi all, forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section. It's getting rainy here and my rear defrost isn't working at all. The switch light comes on, I hear it engage but the wires on the rear window don't heat up.

Anyone else experience this problem??
I checked the fuse, seems to be fine. Thx in advance!

The rear window doesn't defrost/defog when I turn it on.

Check to see if the wires have fallen off the point where they are soldered on to the terminal bonded to the glass. Also I thought the rear defog used a circuit breaker.

Thx lexus2000.

I'm not sure where the wires meet the glass exactly,I think I know but I'd have to remove the interior plastic piece that is by your head when you sit in the back seat, not sure how to remove that piece without breaking anything.

As for the circuit breaker, I'm not sure, I know next to nothing about electricity/wiring.
I found a 15a fuse labeled "defog" and assumed that was it, fuse was fine of course

This is the piece I believe the wire that supplies power to the defroster is behind. Anyone know how to remove it? Thx

Before you go tearing into the car, check ALL of your fuses, not just the one that you think is for the rear defroster.

Also,

1) if you turn your defroster ON, does it go out on its own after 20 min or so?

2) when you turn your defroster ON, do the outside mirrors heat up? (Aassuming you have heated mirrors)

The service manual says the following:

Rear window defogger does not operate.
1. Defogger Wire
2. Choke Coil
3. Wire Harness

The choke coil might have burnt out, if it's not that then you'll need to test for power right at the glass contacts or look at the relay it may have gone bad. My money is on a bad choke. Wait I see a 40 amp defog fuse in the wiring diagram don't know where that is located. But if that was blown I don't think anything would light up.

Thank you guys!
I checked most of the fuses and they are ok. The defrost switch dis turn off on its own after about 15 minutes or so.(no heated mirrors)

I just found this thread.https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...uestion-3.html
Recently got my Windows tinted but I'm pretty sure the defroster didn't work before I tinted them.

That's totally uncalled for, and impolite.

possible broken lines in glass. if any of the lines in the glass is damaged the circuit is open and will not work. you can test this with a test light. turn rear defrost on. ground one side and touch each line segment. if it doesnt light up theres an open. they have a special paint at the auto parts store that can bridge any gap in the line segments. check power going to rear glass and ground wire from it. if you have 12volts its a new rear glass for you my friend.
