Default Grey "sub" key question

I've got a 2000 ES300, with one master key and one grey "sub" key, as the manual calls it (also referred to as the "valet" key). According to the manual, this will not open the trunk or glove compartment, but will it start the car? I can only get it to get the starter going, but it won't turn over. It will open the front door, but I thought it was supposed to start the car as well, since that is what a valet key would need to do, right? Anybody else get it to start the car?

Your "valet key" may not be the original key, or your car "forgot" the information from the key's chip (memory erased). You might have to go thru the process of linking the keys chip to your car's computer.

Thanks; I'll try it tomorrow. I swear it's like somebody made up all of these hokey pokey moves just to see if we'll actually do them. And we will.

It may seem like hokey pokey but done correctly will work for you. Good luck.

It works! I tried method 2 first, but that didn't work. Method 1, which is easier, turned out to be the correct one for my car (2000 es300).
