Default ES300 Steering Wheel Starts to Shake Around 60+

I've noticed that my steering wheel starts to shake around 60+ mph. The rest of the car feels fine but it's quite noticeable in the steering wheel. I've looked elsewhere, but I've yet to find a solution. I've heard that it could be the nuts, tires, unbalanced wheels, and countless other things. I haven't had it checked out since I would probably be ripped off by some of the local shops, not to mention I sort of doubt they'd even be able to diagnose the problem. Other threads have been posted about similar problems without a defining answer. Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone been able to fix this problem completely?

As you said, it could be a lot of things. A vibrating steering wheel is one of the hardest problems to diagnose.

Possible causes: bent wheel, unbalanced tire, loose tie rod end, warped brake rotors.

Start with a quality shop and do a dynamic balance. If the wheel is out of whack, they should be able to pick it up on the machine. Go from there.

Mine was fixed with a simple but quality wheel balance.

Agreed^ Quality wheel balancing should be a routine job for any tire shop. Unfortunately, it is not the case.

Check your tire surfaces as well.
If you have any uneven wear, this can also happen.

A quick check is to rotate your tires from front to back and see if there is any noticeable difference. If so, then your tires/wheels are suspect. Else, its a suspension or steering component(s) issue.

Get on yelp and search for the closest mechanic with the best reviews. I had the same steering wheel shake it turned out i need new tires and a new rack and pinion.

I'm currently having the same problem with my 99 ES300. The wheel begins vibrating at highway speeds and gets pretty violent as I touch the brakes. Are you experiencing any issues other than when at highway speeds? I do not see any symptoms unless I am on the highway. It begins while I am driving along and gradually gets worse. Is this what you're experiencing?
