Dangerous Igniton Switch, Please Help!!!
I have a 1998 ES 300 that is a fantastic car, however if I don't replace the ignition switch immediately, I will be looking at big $$$$!!!
PROBLEM: Occasionally the switch will short between the 12v source and the starter position contact, causing the starter to continue engagement after the engine is running. I can even turn the switch to the off position, remove the key and the starter is still engaged trying to start the engine..... (The switch is shorting and randomly sending 12v to the starter solenoid)
QUESTION: Where may I find instructions on removing and replacing the ignition switch??? I have searched the forum and 24 pages of Google with no help.
(Note: The switch is mounted in the dash, not on the steering column.)
Thanks guys, I appreciate your help....

Ignition switch or relay??
Very good question.... No, I am not sure, just had the same symptoms on another car and the switch ended up being the problem. I guess it is possible that a relay is staying engaged keeping 12V on the starter motor....
Any ideas????
Thank you...

Ignition Switch
Well, no luck with the Multi-Meter... Since the problem is intermittent, everything at the starter and the relay checks out perfectly,.... And, of course, for now, the starter is working fine... I will first replace the relay and keep my fingers crossed.... Any ideas ????.... Thank you...

more likely the problem is with the ignition than the relay. a relay is a more simple circuit and has less chance of failure. but of course we're only talking chances here, no definite possibilities
