Fillin' Her Up
Okay now that I have got your attention with the title, I have a question about my fuel gauge that some of you may have come across and hopefully advise further.
When my fuel gauge is almost at the "E" mark (ie. almost empty), the little orange light comes on saying I am about to run out of gas. However when I fill it up, the most I can get in the tank is about 50L (which in the current market and in Aussie dollars, is about $48), before the pump clicks off as it is full.
Now I am not complaining, and on that full tank (what looks to be 50L) I get about 450km's. Now I understand that my fuel tank should hold about 70L which therefore makes me think a couple of things:
1. Where is the other 20L?
2. Is my fuel gauge calibration out?
The needle, when full will stay at the full mark up until 100km's or so. At the moment it is showing about 340's at half-way. Can anyone explain what is going on here?

hi,
i actually full the lexus last week,
with the gaz prices ( .82$ the Liter) ( thanks ultra marde for the 0.03 cent rabate on super on thuesday
Well when the light is on, by my experience its mean that we can go for another 60-70 kilometers in the city, on the highway it would be much more i think
So if you can get 450km with a full tank ( mix highway and city), it is reasonable. Remember it always depend on how you drive it.
I hardly can get 450 in winter because i ALWAYS let her warm up before starting ( we already had -25 night and january isnt even there!!)

How do you get 450km out of your tank :O
I can hardly get maybe 300km out of a full tank.
And mine clicks off at around 55L as well, but that's most likely because there is still fuel left in the tank. As JSM says if there's 1/8th of the tank left when the light comes on, that's 8.75L so if you were filling up with the light on, you would be around 60L anyway. And I hardly ever fill up at the last minute, so it's all explained.

In fact, because I have done a fair bit of driving over the Christmas break, travelling 20-25 minutes each way on a couple of occasions) the car was reading 437km's travelled with about 2 marks above the 1/4 tank mark. I reckon it could have done or nudged the 500km mark.

Hah hah! New record for me lately. 1/4 tank of fuel left and my car has now done just over 450km's since last fill up (think it's like 450.7). Awesome and still only costs me $50 to fill up. Love this car.
