check engine light
well tomorrow im taking the car down to autozone to get a code check. my check engine light came on. I checked everything i could but i'll keep ya posted. the weird thing is that the car runs amazingly well. so it will be interesting to see what the error code pops.
what have your codes popped?

When I had my CEL on in my '01 ES, it was for 2 different occasions: One was for a bad charcoal canister in the fuel delivery system (replaced and paid by Lexus), and the other for a malfunctioned transmission solenoid which led to a faulty transmission (extended warranty paid for half of the replacement cost).

EGR valve. techs at autozone were really helpful and told me that 99% of the time its just carbonized. remove it and use some break cleaner and it should be good as new. i'll attempt that tomorrow and hope of it fixing the problem. all else fails i can get another one but $164 is steep for a lil thing that it is.

Yep that's it. After you clean it & check it's vacuum lines & such, if it still doesn't work...
Unplug the EGR check sensor & try shoving a 15 ohm resistor in it.
Just keep in mind if the valve isn't working all the way, you may ping & may not pass emessions testing.
With the high compression on the 1mz-fe's they're bad to ping during low-part throttle & transisions with EGR flow too low.

well that worked out well!
i fixed my dads computer. he came and fixed my car. lol
yeah a good amount of carbon on the egr. but the car is running well and even upto operating temp with no light. so lets hope this fixes the problem till i can just replace the egr valve with a new one.

I just bought a 95 ES w/144k on it and the check engine light is on. It runs fine (other than a busted motor mount) so I expect it is an EGR or O2 sensor or something as sugested above. My question is this: Will the light reset itself after the problem is fixed? If not, how do you reset it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

lol normally ide say no. that youde pull the ecu fuse or the negative term from the battery for 5 min....but mine reset about a month ago...and hasnt shown any other problems. lol.
so i guess what im saying is after you get it changed. reset the light and dont worry bout it.
