hey guys. i'm just wondering what type of MPG you guys have on your ES.. i tested mine.. i only have 22 Mile per gallon on Highway. wow. that really sucks. any ideas on impoving my MPG on a 93 es300??..

Im getting around 19.5 in the city. I havent taken it out on the highway yet. Its still a project car.
I think its gonna improve to over 20 since I changed plugs, put fuel injector cleaner in and Im gonna experiment with better gas.

Lexus should reli start thinking about creating a hybrid ES. Although the new ES' have pretty good milarge anyways, but it could always be better. How much do most of you put into a full tank of gas?

I checked a few weeks ago and found that I get 25 mpg on nearly 100% highway driving. This is on a "new" engine with under 20K miles in my 130K+ 1994 ES300. I drive a little quick, but at a steady 75 mph, don't think I'd do a lot better with the mileage at a slower speed so that's that.

thats my problem, these cars need 5 speed autos. at 70mph, im cruising at 3150 RPM. thats crazy. kick it up to 80, and im doing about 3500. my concorde cruises at freaking 1800 at 70...IIRC

does it really matter??
does the different type of gas really matter?? i mean i see there's 87 89 90 and they are a few cent different with eachother.. would better gas give better millage?? i am not so sure.. but if it does give getter millage i'll go for it , hearing that better gas also better on your engine..

You really only need to use premium unleaded fuel for high compression engines. General rule of thumb is 10:1 or greater. Higher compression motors benefit from the extra octane.
For a 93 ES300, it used a cast iron block 3VZ-FE 3.0L V6 that only had a 9.5:1 c/r. Unless you're pinging (which you shouldn't with a properly maintained engine), 87 octane is perfectly fine. If you have a 1MZ-FE V6 aluminum block 3.0L the c/r is 10.5:1 with a 2 bank knock sensor system. It's imperative to use premium in that motor (although you can get away using 87 octane with no problem since the knock sensors will advance/retard timing when knock is sensed) since there is more chances of knock/ping.

Lexusk8 is right about mileage figures using premium or regular, there wont be a difference. You actually get better mileage with lower octane fuels, especially in higher elevations.
