For those of you who have tried these oils in our 6th Gens, have you noticed quieter engines with something thicker than the 0W-20?

As Arty says, use what the manufacturer recommends. Toyota wants you to be happy with your Lexus. IMO synthetic oil at the suggested weight is the best for your engine.

Lexus specifies 0w20. Is there a reason you are considering deviating from what they recommend? In many cases, a quality 0w20 will outperform a 5w20. On a newer vehicle, I'm not sure there is an advantage going to a 30 weight when a 20 weight is specified. In fact, it might not be a good idea.

I detect a little skepticism in your question.

I don't profess to be an oil expert but have learned a bit about maintenance on the "bobistheoilguy.com" oil forum. Something I've learned is that many quality 0w20s have a stronger additive package than the same brand 5w20. Many members of that forum have their used oil analyzed and the 0w20s seem to achieve better results than the 5w20s, especially in durability.

Lexus has specified 0w20 with 10k mile oil change intervals for some time now - a practice that other manufacturers have adopted also. In our case, we change at about 7500-8000 miles because that's all my wife drives in a year.

I notice that using oils thicker than 0W 20 is possible on ES, and it seems to improve the quietness, but it also increases the fuel consumption as the Lexus Owner's Manual advises.
