Transmission and engine
I just replace my engine in my 2008 es350 due to overheating, I also replace the front pump in the transmission of the car due to poor workman ship by the mechanic who installed the engine!!! I just found out that the transmission fluid have to be put in by a special device!!! I really need some help in putting my vehicle back on the road without the dealer prices, if I have to go too the dealer I will!!

So, you need to put some oil in the tranny?

To reset the codes you need the Techstream. Buy if from aliexpress for 10-15 bucks.

I don't understand the need for a special tool to put ATF in the tranny. The reference may be to check the fluid level as these trannys have no dip stick. Even then, the IR method has proven effective. Reference could also be to flush the tranny but the above links shows you don't need one. I used a Milescraft pump to flush the ATF. See post #28

The special tool helps you to get the real oil temp, which is very important to measure oil level.

That would be the Techstream software. Over on the Camry forums (same tranny as ES350), one of the DIYer's moderators effectively proved the IR method is as accurate as the Techstream method. The IR method involves using an infrared gun to measure the ATF temp as it flows out of the pan. You start draining as soon as the pan hits the lower temp limits. I have used this method on our 07 ES350 and 07 Tacoma with no problems. See post #146

How much is the IR gun?

I got mine for $60 at Amazon but you can get a good one for $20-40 depending on brand name and features. They are available in auto parts stores. Maybe Walmart and Target too. Great little tool for other stuff such as cooking, It instantly tells you the surface temperature. Check youtube on how to use it.

The Techstream is around $20.

Yep, I have it, and an XP laptop, but I found it a PIA to drag the computer to the garage and hook up the wiring. The IR gun is quicker; more convenient; has a short learning curve;.and is accurate. You'll have to decide which is the better option for you.
