2007 ES350 100,000 Mile Maintenance...What do I need?
Hey everyone,
First time poster. I apologize for the mundaness of this question but I really could use some specified advice.
I purchased my Lexus ES350 at 85k miles from a Nissan dealership where they did their X amount of point inspection.
I am not reaching 100k miles and have no done anything to it since purchasing it other than having the oil changed.
I spoke with the Lexus dealership to see what was recommended at this level of mileage and they gave me a rundown. It was quoted at about $650 (forget what it all includes).
What I want to know is what should be my primary concern at this amount of miles? Everything is running fine but I want to make sure it continues that way. However I have always been wary of getting overcharged at dealerships as I don't know much about cars. Can anyone suggest to me what "package" of maintenance I should be considering at this mileage marker? And what some of the most important tunes ups are? Thanks in advance!

What I would do(check and replace as necessary): air filter, cabin air filter(makes a huge difference), check the CV-joints for tears/leaks, change spark plugs(this is due at 120,000, but I'd do it now), change the transmission fluid if it hasn't been done recently(requires a full flush. It's quite expensive), replace coolant, replace brake fluid(it's hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water, and you don't want it to cause corrosion in your brake system).
That's just what I would do since it's a new(to you) car and you don't know if it has been done.
What the 100,000 maintenance schedule calls for:
Oil change, tire rotation, replace engine coolant, inspection and road test.
That should definitely not cost $650.

My understanding is transmission is "sealed" and the fluid is "lifetime" but there has been discussions here on this forum about what "lifetime" means? My 2007 ES350 has 145k km on it and no plans to change the fluid.

I would do tranny service too.

It's sealed, but it should still be replaced. Transmission fluid eventually break down with time and heat, so it should be replaced. I would replace it every 60-80,000 miles.

I agree. I did it at 55000.

Agree (except for the maybe the plugs). Lexus says change brake fluid every 30K so register at Lexus.com and look at the vehicle history. If not serviced by a Lexus dealer and brake fluid has not yet been changed, it's toast for sure. Over in the toyotanation.com forums, people have taken pictures of the "old plugs" from the same V6 engine and the recommended 120,000 mile interval appears fine.
Edit: Here is a link to 80,000 mile plugs. Read on down for the comments on condition:

The plugs are generally a $300+ job so you may want to wait a little bit on them anyway to "even out" your maintenance costs.
Since the powertrain is identical to that of a Camry V6, many people take their ES's to Toyota dealers where the price is about 25% less for the same service.
Also, make sure the 9LH vvt-i oil line recall service has been performed or you could be looking at a toasted engine like this - see posts #11 & 28 through 31::
