Default Homelink Button Gets Stuck And Opens The Garage Door On Its Own!

2009 ES350

Yesterday, I came back from work to see that our garage door was left open all day then in the middle of the night, I saw that it was opened again. Luckily, nothing was taken from our garage. When I checked the homelink button, it was jammed in (stuck) which most likely is causing this. When I tested the button, it keeps getting stuck. How do I fix this?

Are you under warranty? If so., take it in...

Go to your owner's manual Section 3-6 for the home link programming.
1) Erasing the entire HomeLink memory for all 3 buttons --> press and hold the 2 outside buttons for 10 seconds until the indicator flashes.
2) Re-program it on a non-jammed button --> Depends on the type of garage door opener you have, refer to manual for specific instructions.

Ours gets stuck too. I was hoping someone came up with an actual fix, rather than switching buttons. I may have to dive in and hunt for the root cause & then develop a fix--when I have time--yeah!

Pull the whole assembly apart and clean it thoroughly, that should help with the stickiness but will require quite a bit a disassembling and reassembling. In the sun glass holder there in two Phillips screws under those covers, remove those screws and pull down with a bit of force, there is two clips located at the front of the console. Once u have it out u can remove every component, clean and reinstall everything in reverse. Maybe take some pictures for reference as you go as there are quite a bit of small parts in there. I've had mine off a couple times now to add a microphone and change out the LEDs.

Good luck!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but our ES's homelink button does stick and it's very annoying. An obvious thing to do is to disassemble it and clean it out. My first instinct was to spray wd40 into the edges to undo any substance that is making the button stick.

Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm also entertaining getting another console on fleabay
