When it's sunny, start the engine and cover the light sensor (with your hand). The light sensor is located in the back of the rear view mirror (inside the car)... There are two sensors.. One facing to the front of the car, and the other one to the back of the car.. Do NOT block the one facing the back of the car (Next to the Auto Button)... Just cover the rear one and you will see all the 3 mirrors are dark green...

Default Side-View Mirrors Swappage

Folks,

Again, I do NOT have auto-dimming rear view mirrors on my 2007 ES.

How can I get these? Could I simply swap out the entire mirror housing and glass? I can get a color-matched pair of used side mirrors (auto-dimming) from a salvage place for about $800 and then sell mine recouping most of that amount...... Could it be that easy to add auto-dimming side view mirrors to my car? Dealer says no, of course, but what's that worth?

Any advice is appreciated.....

Andrew

It is easy to find out if you have auto dimming mirrors. On a very sunny day with the car in the sun get the car dark inside using a sun shade on the front window and the rear window shade up. Get in the car, start it, and quickly lower the shade and remove the shade from the front window while watching the side mirror (either one). If you have the dimming feature the mirror will show a bluish tint that will rapidly clear in response to the light. I find the effect hard to detect at night. The feature is well designed and appears to be "just enough" most of the time so it is not noticible if it is "working" or not.

I looked up the part numbers for the mirror glass. One number fits 2006-03 to 2007-07 and the other fits 2007-07 to 2009-08. They both list for about $373. And usually for that price they are what Lexus calls electrochromic or auto-dimming. So it seems like all ES' came with them. I could be wrong though. If you PM me the last 8 of your VIN, I'll look it up to make sure for you.

Just to confirm. I saw this in the brochure for the 2007 ES350. Auto dimming inside rear view mirror is standard on all models, and the feature is added to the exterior mirrors on the Premium Package.
