questions regarding oil (synthetic/dino), grade(west coast), filter rec, quick lube
Hope to purchase a new ES in the next month. I prefer using those quick lube places like Jiffy lube instead of waiting at the dealer and spending $100 on a Lexus oil change. I have a few questions to owners.
1. What oil grade do you go with (west coast climates)?
Do you switch grades during the winter?
Here in Northern California it gets into the 100s in the summer, but rarely below 30 in the winter.
2. synthetic vs. Dino. I know this topic has been beaten to death.
Just wondering what ES 350 owners are going with and why.
If I go with synthetic, I will just bring my own Mobil-1 to the quick-change place.
3. When I use those quick lube places like Jiffy Lube, I bring my own oil filter.
Is there anything superior to the stock Toyota/Lexus oil filters?
Thanks

Just stick with the factory recommended weight. Thats what I suggest at least. I see no harm in going with Mobil 1, I would just wait till after 5,000 miles to do it so your engine can properly break in.
I also recommend using Lexus OEM filters. They designed them for the engine, its going to be hard to beat in my opinion. Everytime I maintain my vehicles, car, motorcycle, whatever, I always use OEM filters.

OEM parts have always looked superior in quality compared to the stuff you can buy at Kragen or some other auto parts store.
I've never switched in the winter. 100+? Sounds like you live in the same region as me. Gets 110+ here in the summer, and below 30 in the winter.
