help a newbie? 92 model won't turn over:(
Hi guys, I've just signed up after hours of trawling though the threads!! I have recently bought a blown up ES300 and have pulled the engine down to replace head gaskets and top end rebuilt. All without a drama. I have gone to start the car after all is reassembled and IT WON'T TURN OVER!! The key works fine, I had the engine turning over previous to the engine work but now I get nothing. I'm pretty cluey around engines but not so much Lexus' When I turn the key to start position. There is just absolutely nothing. No power to the starter solenoid (have shorted this and starter work perfect) There's no power to the fuel pump (once again tested and working fine)
Is there a tricky security system I can't beat?? I've had the battery disconnected for 30mins, for 1 hour, overnight!! Still the same thing. I know it's not component failure because it turned over just fine before the engine work!! So it's either something I've messed up or magic.
Thanks for any help!
Lukey

I ran power straight from the battery to the starter solenoid and the engine cranks over fine.
I've tried everything. Parkbrake on, off. Car in park. Car in neutral. Key on ignition for 30mins.
I'm really pulling my hair out.

I didnt actually remove the engine, just changed head gaskets in the vehicle. All other accessories work fine: Instrument cluster, stereo, seats, everything electrical.
How does the security in these cars lock you out? Does it cut fuel or ignition or just not crank?

Another thought, I understand there are 2 relays that control the starter circuit (amongst other things) instead of the conventional single starter relay.. one is the EFI relay? The EFI relay clicks fine.. What is the other one?? And where do I find it?
Muchly appreciated!!

It definitely sounds like an electrical problem between the ignition and the starter. Disconnected wires, bad relay, voltage drop?
