2001 Lexus ES300 hesitating to shift when engine is cold.
I bought this car used in the past month, and didn't realize the car seems to hesitate shifting from 2nd to 3rd when the engine is cold. Whenever I first drive from a cold start, it does this. The rpms also seem to stay high longer than they should during the initial idling after a cold start. When the engine is still cold, it seems to somewhat hesitate downshifting into 1st. However, after driving the car for about 4 minutes and the fluids are warm, everything shifts normal. I had taken the car into my mechanic who said they couldn't find any transmission codes, but recommended a transmission flush. I got it done, and they claimed the transmission fluid was dark and smelled burnt, but I personally had checked the transmission dipstick and the fluid was only a little dark and I never smelled any burning.
Anyway, do you guys think my transmission is screwed?

It does also in my car, is 300 2002. I think it's normal....I have almost 300,000 miles on it, it does the same way ever since...I change my transmission regularly though.

That is normal, the trans upshifts at higher speed when cold. It is part of a warmup or emissions strategy maybe. If you search here it is described, but IIRC it is like 2-3 shift at 35, 3-4 shift at 45 something like that when cold.
