So I have a 2004 ES with the ML radio and I've recently had an issue where even when the radio is off, I have a static noise that comes and goes and the radio volume changes from perfectly clear to gritty randomly as well. I'm thinking the ML amp is bad/going bad, but was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this? Some times it's perfectly clear, other times there's a static noise. I was thinking it could be a bad ground, but because the sound is changing randomly I'm starting to think this is less likely. I did install a rearview camera about 2 weeks ago, but I don't see how that could make a difference and this is more of a coincidence because when I removed all the camera stuff, there was no difference. Any input would be great thanks.

Could be a bad ground somewhere in the system.

If it were a bad ground, wouldn't the noise be constant?

If it's a loose ground you'd be getting the symptoms you're seeing. Since you were working in the trunk, that's the first place I'd look.

So i removed the camera, my grom audio system, and the noise still remained. The only times I can get the noise to stop are when I unplug the amp or the connector thats wrapped in foam (or pulling the radio fuses). The grounds I can see are fine, so I really don't know.
