Your local hardware store sells an epoxy that you knead like dough and that you can than form into basically any shape you want. It dries within 20 minutes or so. ( fully cures in 24hrs). You can than paint it to match the rest of the key. There are several types, so get the one that is suitable for plastics, etc.
This should never break again, and if you're good, you can make the repair look almost perfect
Obviously You'll have to replicate both sides of the key separately so that you can separate them later when you need to change batteries..

If you are sure there are no batteries, than it's even easier, you can recreate the missing piece, paint it, and be done with the problem.
Forgot to mention that after its dry you can sand it smooth before painting it, and that it's also available at Wal Mart
Post a picture when done. It will help others in your situation.
