Default Remote key

Hi all,
I'm new here, just bought a 2002 ES300, it didn't come with the remote key, can I get one from ebay/amazon and program it? I don't mind if it doesn't start the car as I have the other key but I would like to open the doors/trunk by remote,
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Yes you can. Just make sure the FCC ID matches your car. Lots of sites out there with programing instructions.

Why not just get one from the dealer for about $36?

I don't think that a remote key from the dealer would only be $36 but I may be wrong. I remember replacements going for around $60 last time I looked. The OP just wants a remote to unlock and lock his doors, so it wouldn't need to be cut but just the remote programmed.

How do I find out what my FCC ID is? I was quoted over $100 by the dealer here in Nebraska, so trying other options first! Thanks guys!

I think for your car it's HYQ1512V but not 100%. Someone that actually has your year ES could look at the back of the key for you. A key with the transmitter is not going to be $36 they are $150 and up at the dealer. Ebay you can probably find for cheaper.

You will need to laser cut the key to program the remote to ready mode thru the ignition sequence. Key remote OEM was about 125 on ebay, and key cut at a local locksmith was 35 dollars. The procees requires turning ignition key on and off a sequence of specific times and pushing lock button a # of times. Had trouble with programming lexus remote with online lexus remote directions! Went with toyota remote programing which was one step different, and the 2003 lexus es 300 remote programed up with all buttons funtioning. Refer to toyota remote programing at you tube.

Or you can just go to your Lexus dealer and get it all done with no hassle for around 250 dollars

Your other option is a aftermarket alarm with door and trunk options, and maybe a remote start too. With every thing included on 2 alarm key fobs. If you don`t mind someone hacking into some wires under the dash. Its expensive but a nice option. It`s something to think about before you spend money on a oem key?

The aftermarket sounds like a good idea, I fitted one to a vw golf when I lived in the UK so could maybe install it myself, remote start in the snow.....oh yes!

Just an update to this guys, I bought an uncut 3 button remote key from E-Bay for $25, I found a thread on here about the sequence to program the remote locking/unlocking and thought I had nothing to lose by trying it with my Valet key, the new key did come with instructions but they didn't work.
Well the sequence I found on here DID work and I was able to program my cheapo master key!!! Now I can remotely lock and unlock the doors and it works on the trunk too!!
I have seen people saying the Valet key wouldn't work, but it worked for me!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Uncut-Ig...333de0&vxp=mtr

That's the key I bought, $20 not $25 lol, bear in mind I have a 2002 ES300, I can't guarantee this will work for other years/models etc,
the sequence goes as follows:-
Start with the drivers door open, all other doors unlocked
Insert key into ignition and remove twice
close then open the drivers door twice
insert then remove key once
close then open the drivers door twice
insert key into ignition
close drivers door
Turn key to ON position
remove key
The locks should cycle once to confirm you are in remote programming mode
Hold the lock and unlock buttons on your new remote key fob for 1 second
release both buttons then hold the lock button on the remote for one second
open and close the drivers door to exit programming mode

Your new $20 key should now remotely lock and unlock your doors, and open your trunk
