sqeeky steering wheel in winter
my steering wheel squeeks in the winter months. I was wondering if it is safe to add graphite in the crevice on the steering column. thank you for your advice.

Hypervish gave you good advise. Lithium grease lasts longer, but doesn't penetrate as well as the Silicone spray. Overall though I prefer the lithium grease. Just apply it well.
Don't use anything else except one of those two lubricants. Other lubricants may damage rubber

Alright so I had the same issue last winter but it wasn't coming from the bottom down by the firewall, it sounded like it was right behind the steering wheel. I've taken the column apart before but where exactly would I put the silicone spray?

If you're sure that its coming from behind the steering wheel itself ( I doubt it) than you'll have To pinpoint the exact cause of the squeak.
Don't spray anything, untill you identify the exact source of the squeak. How you fix it, depends on what you find. Carefull of the airbag.

It's possible for the noise to be coming from the wheel itself, usually manifests from the clockspring/spiral cable rubbing up against the wheel.
People have solved that by spraying the aforementioned lubricants into the steering wheel through the cap on the side, I personally can't recommend it because I haven't ever done it and don't know the consequences of that liquid getting in the wrong spot.
As PFB said, proceed with caution.

Appease those of us that had an issue that sounds similar. I was very skeptical before I tried it and it solved my squeak. I also thought it was right at the steering wheel. There is a rubber boot right at the floor (inside the vehicle) where the steering column meets the firewall. Push some white lithium grease inside the rubber boot with your finger. I was amazed that I lived with that squeak for so long and it was so simple to fix.

No I had the squeak come from down at the rubber boot and I fixed that. This one sounds completely different, like a plastic on plastic sound. I guess I'm going to have to wait until winter hits to solve it.

I know exactly the sound some of you are experiencing between the steering wheel and the column. On mine it sounds like a binding sound as I turn the wheel. It sounds like something is rubbing or sticking out as I turn the wheel. It's not that big of deal but if anyone figures this out I would like to know how to fix it. I'm too worried about spraying a bunch of lube in there!
