won't start till someone rocks the car

I have a lexus 2002 es 300.

The problem is that it will not start till someone rocks the car back and forth a little, while am in the car turning the key.
Sounds strong when it does start...

I have a 2002 ES 300 as well and I had a similar issue. Ended up being the starter.

Does your starter click at all when you're trying to start the car?

it's the starter. just changed mine at 174K

What I want to know is how you figured this out. Who was the first person to suggest rocking the car? If that was me, I would have just given up or tried tapping on the starter.
