Default Weird Starting problem with my 05?? Starter?

Hey there. New guy here. Been watching this forum for a while now and need some advice. My third ES

My 05 ES is acting up with the starting. It has bout 50K on it. It will not start unless it sits for about 2 hours. If you try to start it within a half hour to an hour after driving, it does not crank, no grinding noise or anything. The lights go on an everything. I tried jumping it, for some reason, and it still did not do anything. I remember with the older domestic cars, that the starter is getting hot and expanding. Needs to cool down. Same theory? Starter or selenoid? or both. Thanks for the help everyone. NEW-B

I won't say it is common for your Lexus, but it sure sounds like a starter issue. Do you know someone you trust to check it out for you? By the way, welcome to CL..

Took it to the shop yesterday. Turned out to be the starter. Got a new starter and battery since it's still the original, and everything is all good now. Thanks

Cool

Just curious...did you get a new OE starter, re-manufactured? And what kind of battery did you put in? Welcome to CL.

Not an OE starter, but a good remanufactured one w/warranty. Stealership$$ was waay to much. Wish the car was under warranty. Honestly, I didn't even look under the hood to see what kind of battery it is, yet. The mechanic is a good old family friend that we really trust. $400 for everything installed I think was a good deal. Don't feel like working on cars right now in the cold Chicago weather. Thanks
