98 ES300 w/ Nakamichi- can I replace all speakers with aftermartet?
My left front speaker is blown and I saw on eBay that it will cost $125 to replace it. Does anyone know if you can replace them with all aftermarket speakers and still work with the Nakamichi headunit? I seen the forum on the SC400 that a guy had did it for a non-Nakamichi system. But can this be done, trying to save $$$$- any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
JJ

yeskay- I haven't done that yet. I had my alarm done by this company and told them to look at the speaker. When I came back to pickup my car they said it's blown, because I have a Nakamichi system I would have to replace it with a OEM speaker, or buy a new head-unit and speakers all the way around. Plus the sound balance goes in and out (left speakers don't work, but the right ones do & vice versa) sometimes which is really frustrating.

Front speakers should be 5.25" with a .75" tweeter. The rear door speakers should be 6.5" single cone. Get shallow mount speakers so they clear the windows. You'll have to adapt a little to mount the tweeters and the crossovers in the front doors, rear doors are a direct fit. Make sure you get the polarity right when you install. If you've never done it before I'd figure a weekend. Rear doors are by far the easiest. Good luck.
Unless these speakers are individually amplified (which they aren't) then you can replace them. Only ones I know of like that right off the top of my head would be the infinity system in Chryslers.

I'm probably late to this party but had that issue with my nak system on my 00' es300. Junk yards are your friend. Found a nak head unit for $40 and an hour drive but that fixed my problem. If you're nice to them, they let you try the part to make sure it works in your car before buying so you know. I did that for my amp and head unit and determined the culprit. Best of luck to you.
