Sub Woofer Removal ES300
#2
I've done it.... you need to remove the entire rear seat to access the rear package tray. it just pops up with clips that you need to take out. once this is done, you have access to the oem sub for removal.

Just pull up on the botton cushion to remove it, then you will see the bolts that hold the backrest in place, unbolt those and move the shoulder belt bolts and out of the way, next lift up on the entire backrest to remove it. Now you can just pop up the package tray to expose the stock sub, use a 10mm ratchet to unbolt.

I've done this on a '99 ES with the stock Lexus Premium sound system (Pioneer sub), not the Nakamichi system, though they should be similar.
I didn't have to remove the backseat, just pull the rear brake light cover towards you, and it should unclip. Reach under the cover and unplug the rear brake light. There should be 4 bolts holding it to the rear deck. Undo those, and it might take a bit of maneuvering to get it through the hole in the deck as the sub bracket is a bit larger than the hole. You shouldn't need to remove the backseat.

I did this also to my 98. But instead i did have to removed the backseats in o rder to lift up the cover. The sub has to wiggled up because it seems to fit in there tightly. But if you plan on puttnig aftermarket subs in a ported box in the trunk it'll sound good because you have ventilation =) but i also plan on putting another aftermarket 8 inch into that spot so it would equal out.

I have a 98 with the Nakamichi sound system and did not have to remove my seats. Lift off the third brake light/speaker cover, it pops up and then pull forward, be carefull because the third brake light wire is connected, disconnect the wire clip and now you have access to four bolts holding the OEM speaker in place. It is a tight fit, but can be removed. I replaced with an aftermarket sub, so I cut off the OEM sub with a small electric metal saw, all the way around the OEM sub and then placed the aftermarket sub onto of the bracket and drilled holes for the aftermarket sub to screw into, then into the metal deck and bolted it down. I did this in order to use the bracket for the third brake light to snap back onto place. Good Luck Bro.
