Pre-purchase inspection
I'm looking for a used lexus right now, and I've found one at a good price about 7hrs away from me. I've read that some people on here have said around $100 for a prepurchase inspection at the Lexus dealership. But I called the one in my city and they told me $185. Is that right?
And what all does the inspection cover? Do they test drive it at all to make sure the transmission shifts fine and things like that?

I bought a 1995 Black on Black LS400 with 131K miles in December.
I thought I would be "smart" and get a "Pre-owned" inspection from
Tustin Lexus (CA).The price was $250.
So they told me I needed new rotors and ball joints. Figured that the car was
due anyway. Bought the car for $500 less than listed.
Took the car for repairs to a great independent mechanic who went over the car with a fine tooth comb. Along with the aforementioned problems, he found
bad power steering pump and hose, valve cover gaskets leaking, filters dirty.
leaking front shock and some rear bushings that needed replacement.
I would have still bought the car but would have lowered the asking price.
I guess what I'm trying to say is the same old story- " EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD AND FAIR MECHANIC WHO KNOWS HIS STUFF". As with most CL members- try to stay away from the dealer

I'm flying out to another state to buy a 2001. I've got an appt to have an hour long inspection that I hope turns out.
What is reasonable to expect as far as them fixing problems if they arise?
If they don't agree to do it do you walk away? I guess I'll have to find out how serious the problem is and the costs involved to repair.
Wish me luck that it's a nice car.

There was recently another CL member who unfortunately didn't get an inspection done before purchasing his ES from a very disreputable dealer. Then immediately after the purchase, the car starting falling apart. To make a long and painful story short - a month after he bought the car (and the car spent most of that month in a shop getting unexpected repairs done ) the engine blew...game over!
Here's the thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=341215
So, as the saying goes " Buyer Beware". POS dealers like the one in the thread link above live by those two words!
BTW, nice looking ride you're after, but remember, looks don't tell the whole story, so do your 'due diligence' before you sign anything. Good luck!
