Removing the door panel
Hi All:
I had to get my driver's side front power window motor replaced because it stopped working. So far the expenses have gone as follows:
$100 for mechanic to diagnose the problem. (I was naive and did not realize there are places that give free estimates)
$99 for the power window motor from NAPA. The lexus dealer wanted $514 for the motor and regulator and of course that is the only place my mechanic checked!
$170 for the mechanic to install the motor.
So far I am out $369 to get the window fixed. Now, the window is not going up smoothly. It make a cracking noise when it goes up moves slowly when the window is half up, then resumes going at normal speed past the half way point.
I don't feel like going back to the mechanic just to figure out what is impeding the progress of the window and pay another $50. Is it easy to remove the driver's side door and see if something is obstructing the progress of the window while it is going up? If so, can some please guide me on how to do this? I have a 1992 Lexus ES.
Thanks,
Maneesh

IMO I would go back to the mechanic to have him see about this problem since you paid a decent amount of money for replacement of the window motor, and you are not fully happy with the repair. Unless I know exactly what is wrong, I wouldn't attempt to fix it on my own. That's my $.02
