You don't remove the old one. The only thing that gets removed is the stubby antenna which is removed by turning counterclockwise. The sharkfin antenna then attaches to the base with a screw and then covers the existing base antenna.

Omg, you saved my life man, I was trying to take off the base. hahah, alright, that makes sense now!

Thanks to Matt, I went down and saw Sam who was very friendly and helped install my new antenna. Another plus is that I thought I was going to have to buy an unpainted one and then get it color matched because I have a Matador Red CT. Well, Sam had even pulled some antennas, in preparation of my visit, with similar paint hues and found a Prius one (FDA32-3Q3) that matched my car exactly. Thus another choice of antenna colors has been found and now available for our cars. After my positive experience with Sam and Beat Sonic, I cannot recommend them enough. Thanks Matt for your write up and thanks Sam for your great customer service.
