Question about your Initial Consumption
3 Days in and I am loving this car. I traded in an Altima with a V6, and thought I would miss the power. But I dont The CT is still really fun to drive, and so comfortable and smooth. And oh so sexy!
When I drove my CT away from the dealership it had 18kms on the odometer (keep in mind all info is Canadian ), so virtually nothing. And the Average Fuel consumption was 20L/100kms! For all the Mericans, thats 12 MPG(US).....I like the Imperial measurement for MPG much better.
My L/100kms has steadily dropped in the last 3 days, and I know there is a break in period. So its kind of a fun game to see how low Im going to be able to get it. Just wondering if its normal for it to start so high initially? Makes me feel like I wont be able to get an accurate average, having that time spent going from 20L/100kms down to 7(which is where Ive gotten it to so far). When you guys picked up your cars, did it start out at 12 MPG(US), and climb its way up?
Its advertised as having 5.5 city/5.9 highway/5.7 combined here. So Im looking forward to watching it continue to drop below 7, and more towards its advertised potential. Ive seen alot of you folks down south say that youre getting the advertised MPG, if not ABOVE. So Im very excited about what the car is capable of.

Not to worry. The farther you drive, the more reliable the indicated fuel consumption becomes. BTW, I've observed that the indicated fuel consumption is about 5-10% optimistic. If you want to see the L/100km that CT owners actually are getting, check out fuelly.com.

First year fuel economy
I reset my past record every 3 months (quarterly) which very nearly correlates with the seasons. It breaks down as follows:
Winter - 43.6 mpg
Spring - 46.0 mpg
Summer - 49.0 mpg
Fall - 47.6 mpg
This averages out to 46.5 mpg for the first 12 months of ownership. Deducting the normal 2 mpg optimism error, we are at 44.5 mpg which is pretty much spot on with my manual calculations at fill up.
I am very happy with an average fuel economy of 44.5 mpg so far.

Thanks StillLine. I just found this screen yesterday actually, and wasnt sure what to do with it. I "Updated" it rather then resetting it, but this also reset the AVG Consumption.
Ive been spending most of my time watching the AVG Consumption per tank value, and so far have only been able to get it as low as 6.1L/100km. Thats close (although on the optimistic side as per what everyone has said), but Id be really happy to see it somewhere within the advertised range.
Ill also be tracking consumption on Fuelly. So I will just have to wait a few fill ups and see.

had ours for 2 weeks, also i love driving it.
Just used the first tank of fuel which was 95 octane, use the whole tank came to 750km, and the light was on and very near bottom of E,
Filled the tank was only 36litres?
I did my calucations that equals 4.8L/100km
Thats 49.0.
Now i filled it with 98 octane and the range keeps going up started at 750km now its at about 780km, and we did around 80km on the weekend.
Great car
PS: my wife drives to city, stop start in traffic

Having just put my 2nd fill up into Fuelly, it gave me 6.6L/100kms. Not sure what Im doing wrong here.

It seems to be rather cold in Ottawa right now, how long trips are you doing with it? Here's my equation:
Cold weather + short trips + break-in period = bad fuel economy
You can winterize the car buy blocking lower grille if you want, it will warm up faster and retain heat better and thus give FE benefit. Don't block the upper though.

Approx 50kms to work (100kms round trip), 90% highway. I live close to a ramp for the highway, so only 3 blocks of city drive to get there. Im between 100-110 km/h on the highway, with some coasting and allowing myself to slow down going up hill to avoid going into the Power Band. Ive got a few kms of rural road with speed limit of 80km/h before I get to work, and I drive it between 80-90. Only 3 stop signs on that section of road. Add in the reverse of that, and I do it 5 times per week. The weekends have a bit of city driving for getting around. But Im not fast off the line, and let it go into EV whenever possible.
I dont use cruise control. I only put it up to the "W" in Power when accelerating, until I get to speed and than I keep it in the Blue. I have underground parking at home, so my car is warm in the morning, but I park outside at work.
Im looking through other CTs on fuelly, and tons of people are getting the advertised consumption right off thier first tank. So am I doing something REALLY wrong to get 6.6L/100kms? Or does everyone else drive EXTREMELY slow?
Both of my fill ups so far, Ive had to put in 35L and 36L, and driven 530 and 560 ish kms respectively. I understand that theres a break in period, but Im seeing other people get much better mileage then I am with cars that are just as new. Its making me sad

Well, that 50 km is pretty decent, but weather still takes it's toll. Air is more dense (drag), ICE has to run more just to keep the heater supplied etc. We'll have to wait for warmer temps

Lexus Test Driver
I've got the bigger cousin (ES300h) but it's always nice to see another metric user
I've been getting 5.5 l/100 km for city use, mainly 60-80 km/h driving with lots of stops and starts, so the lighter CT should be getting a lower figure. On the highway, I can get 6.0 l/100 km on a 120 km/h cruise on level ground although this goes up to 7.0+ through the mountains. I always use cruise control on highways because the computer is smart enough to maintain a balance of power vs. due consumption on uphill climbs while doing regen on the way down.

Second year fuel economy
Pretty cool how I estimated my first year of ownership (14k miles) mpg at 44.5. Been using fuelly.com for the second year of ownership (another 14k miles) and sure enough, spot on 44.5 mpg.
28,000 miles and I've averaged 44.5 mpg.
