Broken Headlight Mounting Tab. Any Suggestions?
Hey guys,
Any of you have any experience replacing the upper mounting tab on a headlight? Or do you guys have any recommendations of where to get this fixed?
The mounting tab is broken/missing .
Thanks!

If the headlight is still securely mounted, a single broken tab is not usually a problem. If more than one, you can attempt using a plastic type epoxy or if lucky regular epoxy to some sort fabricated mount. Just to note that the plastic epoxy emits particularly nasty head spinning fumes, mix and use in a -very well ventilated area-
Do you have a pic of the area that you have in mind for this tab? Pic can help us make suggestions.

Thanks for the advice! I will look into the replacement tabs again. I purchased one before but it didn't seem to fit at all, even though it was the correct part. Do you mind sharing which body shop you went to? or any recommendations?

Sure! I went to Melrose Autobody Works in Los Angeles
My tab was broken, but not completely missing like that... but the replacement bracket bolts on somewhere below that... is there a hole for a screw around that area? cause the replacement bracket did not need any modification to the headlight to be attached...

I went to
A-1 Autobody and Towing
710 Hundley Way
Placentia, CA 92870
(714) 993-5111
I had some SC430 lights that I needed mounted, but the tabs were broken. They were able to mount the headlight securely and the headlight hasn't budged at all.
Ask for Matt and tell him Ted with the Black SC430 sent you. He'll definitely hook you up!

The plastic over the years becomes a bit brittle. Pulling them in the proper direction is key. Some of the mount locations get tight when it is all assembled so wiggling them and pulling at slightly off angles doesn't help. The corner marker lights on mine have to be pulled straight forward. BUT because the mount pins are so snug getting a finger grip on them is difficult without pulling them at a slight angle to get a hold. There may be some SST for certain applications. Some cars you'll have to pull the whole bumper to access all the mounts.
I've been using West Marine 105 epoxy for various plastic and carbon fiber fixes lately. This is fantastic epoxy compared to the stuff at the home improvement stores. A bit pricy though well worth the results. It has to be portioned accurately to get the proper bond-cure strength.
