I also place at least part of the blame on parking-lot planners, merchants, and business owners, not just car owners. In their rush to cram as many vehicles in the lot as possble (and keep costs down by laying and maintaining less pavement area) parking spaces are often made too narrow, not allowing for as much space as needed to open and close doors between vehicles without dinging. I sometimes look for end-spaces, myself, and align my car as far from the inner white line as possible.

I recently had a rather unpleasant experience of dealing with a well-off couple in a new 535i BMW that smacked their door into my Lexus. I've never met such rude people. They even called the cops on me, claiming they were the victim, as they see nothing wrong with hitting other vehicles, just a part of normal driving.
I can clearly see why a Lexus driver would take 2 parking spots.
However, if you're going to do that (and I've done that), park far a way and take a nice stroll.

I'll quote myself on this one.....just this morning, I came out of the rec-center where I swim every day, and found a Porsche Cayenne parked that way (taking up two spaces) right next to my own car.

Going into an event at the local convention center, I noticed a new BMW parked in two spaces. On my way out a couple of hours later, the car was in the same spot, but with 4 flat tires. Karma?

Nope......just some moron with too much time on his hands, and no sense of respect for someone else's property.

I see a lot of larger cars do this pretty commonly. Seems like maybe newer parking lots/spaces are getting tighter to the point where a larger vehicle wouldn't be able to physically open their doors wide enough to let people in and out if they are correctly parked with cars beside them...?
