Future of collector cars: Will Lexus models make the list?
I’m working on my 1940s vintage cars, thinking how simple the mechanics are, and then looking over at my GX 460. It’s so packed with technology that it takes high-priced equipment and a skilled technician to diagnose a problem. There’s tons of stuff to break on it, and I can’t imagine it still running decades down the road.
So what’s the future of collector vehicles? Will any of today’s Lexus models be sought-after classics decades from now?

If Lexus had offered a car with the turbocharged 1JZ-GTE or 2JZ-GTE then I'd say yes. As of right now, there isn't a Lexus old enough to be a "collector" car.
I could maybe see the SC300/SC400 in 10-20 years being collectible, right now they're a popular car to mod because Supra prices are insane and this is what people can afford if they want a turbocharged rocket ship.

Besides LFA which makes the list obviously, my picks would be:
1st Gen LS400 / 1st gen SC400 / 1st gen RX300 / 2nd Gen GS400 - these were some of the very best cars at the time of their introduction in Luxury and Performance.
LS600h possibly depends on how hybrids are seen in future.
ISF possibly depends if F brand will be around in 25-50yrs

RX300 created the Crossover segment which is now the most popular segment in the Auto Industry.
The vehicle has true historical significance for the whole industry not to mention the Lexus brand itself. Also styling and packaging wise - it was well before its time.
Will it be pursued by auto enthusiasts - probably not, but the original ones may have historic value in the future.....

Maybe the LFA and/or the 2Gen SC430 with its superb interior and power-folding hardtop (still got yours, Andrew?), but I don't see any other production Lexus models making the collector-car list.

It's mostly going to be the first cars Lexus sold when the company got started. The original LS, SC, and I'd say way down the road, even the first ES. Most of those ES's are pretty thrashed by now, so finding an all original one would be a spectacle.

The only Lexus that is guaranteed to be a collector car is the LFA. It's already a collector car since only 500 were ever made and it's such an exceptional automobile. No other car will be because outside the US, it is regularly panned. And in the US, while being nice cars, are more a commodity than anything else. The possible exception might be the very first LS model. Also maybe the 1gen SC300 with a manual because they are so rare and the whole 2JZ powerplant, but that's a long shot. Rare does not equal collectible.
