Great that some of the bigger utes are finally getting Australian, but starting a $120K. That is just ridiculous. You could get an E-Class 250 Benz for that price, I know it is apples to oranges, but just goes to show how ridiculous pricing is in Australian.

Mr Campbell confirmed Ram pick-ups will go on sale in Australia and New Zealand by the end of this year.
Price and details are yet to be announced but the vehicles are expected to start from $120,000, before more affordable models follow.
The biggest of the Dodge Ram pick-ups coming to Australia can carry more than 3 tonnes in the ute tub (versus the current category maximum of 1 tonne) and tow more than 7 tonnes (versus the current category maximum of 3.5 tonnes).
Mr Campbell said the vehicles will meet "all government requirements for full volume certification".
Translated, that means the vehicles will meet the same standards as mass production vehicles; most vehicles converted by smaller operators locally do not meet these mass production standards.

$120k Aussie dolllars is $90,000 USD.
Honestly how are they supposed to sell trucks at that price???? Are all cars/trucks in Australia exhorbantly expensive for no reason? I know the article said you could get a Benz E250 for the same price, that's kind of entry level as well.

Interesting article describing why cars cost so much more in Australia. Although it mostly describes luxury cars which the Australian government hits really hard with taxes. The LS460, for example, costs 3 TIMES as much. Most luxury cars do.

Apparently it's not just luxury cars. The truck described in the article is the Ram 3500, which has a US base price of $31,410 (though if you literally tick every box on a Laramie Limited it just crests $70k). Now granted, some of the additional cost is the conversion by HSV, but I wouldn't expect that alone to triple the asking price.

difficult to compare w/o knowing all the facts -- do busboys in australia make $150K / yr and 2 bedroom apts rent for $250/mo? at least they are afforded the opportunity to purchase vehicles available here.... the same cannot be said in reverse
