How long should you keep a car ?

What is the upkeep cost to keep these cars running? My friend's 2007 Camery only demands for the regular inerval oil change and a battery replacement.
Our 2010 Nissan Cube purchased brand new is a whole different story. So far it has seen: 1) $300 cargo door hinge replacement. 2) Just this weekend a nice new addition of engine pan oil leak. Both covered under the Gold Preferred Extended Warranty bought together with the new car. Took it to another nissan dealership and the service guy commented it's not uncommon for a low-traffic service department to try to wring out the warranty dollars.
How high is your tolerance for the upkeep costs, let's say, per year or every 2 years? At what point do you throw in the towel and get another longevity vehicle? Needlessly to say the reliability of the these cars have to be top notched for them to be considered prior to the purchase (and we thought Nissan wasn't that bad; at least they weren't back in 1999!)
