Infiniti Q30 Sketch Released, Will Compete with Mercedes-Benz CLA
The sporty small-luxury market looks like it'll expand again.
While BMW can’t figure out what it will be doing with the future of the 1 Series in the United States, Mercedes-Benz is heavily marketing the launch of the CLA-Class compact luxury coupe. Infiniti will now be dropping its offering into the mix of small luxury coupes and hatchbacks with the new Q30 Concept.
An official sketch was released today showing off the Q30′s contemporary design that will target a younger audience. The concept will make its official debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
“This Infiniti Q30 Concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy,” said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company, Ltd. “In our quest to appeal to the modern, young-minded premium customer, the Infiniti Q30 Concept has a distinctive style and reaches new levels of product quality.”
The Infiniti Q30 will fit right below the Q50 (formerly known as the G37), which competes with the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C Class.
“Q30 Concept is slender, sleek and seductive,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. “When you see speedy big cats, like cheetahs, they have a slenderness and a lightweight stride. It’s almost like they’re floating. That’s the muscularity we were aiming for with Q30 Concept.”
No word on what will power the Infiniti Q30 – we’re just hoping it won’t be offered exclusively as a hybrid.

They better make this one good. This will be the model that will bring many new owners to the brand. They need to make sure it will be styled aggressively and will be able to run with the CLA45

The Q50 is a good sign they have a nice direction but the Q60 will really sell me if that is anything like what I hope it to be (basically a lot of the Essence).

Looks more like a A-Class and CT fighter
Infiniti releases first image of sleek, seductive Q30 Concept ahead of world premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show
• Design of Q30 Concept is a unique fusion of body styles merging of the dynamic design and sportiness of a coupe, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance of a crossover
• World premiere in Frankfurt September 10 at 10:15 am CET
Hong Kong – Infiniti has provided a first look at the Q30 Concept which will have its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show as the next step in Infiniti's foray into new premium segments.
The Infiniti Q30 Concept signals the contemporary design vision for a compact Infiniti vehicle which will target a new generation of premium customers. It is set to be unveiled at Infiniti's press conference, scheduled for 10:15 am CET on September 10 in Hall 5 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Q30 Concept embodies Infiniti's vision to deliver head-turning design, innovative materials with precise fit and finish and passionate craftsmanship, while provoking a radical shift in the premium compact segment.
The shape of the Infiniti Q30 Concept deliberately challenges categorisation – not a coupe, not a hatch and not a crossover but a fusion of the three body styles. It is designed for younger customers seeking an alternative to traditional premium compact vehicles and open to convention-challenging approaches.
Infiniti is confident this merging of the dynamic design and sportiness of a coupe, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance of a crossover will resonate with these customers.
The Q30 Concept design language reflects the brand's vision to deliver new levels of design, materials, fit and finish, craftsmanship and performance. The Infiniti design team, led by Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa, has explored bolder, sensual sculpting and enhanced muscularity with the Q30 Concept as the brand's design language continues to evolve.
The Q30 Concept signals the next step in an aggressive strategy to extend the Infiniti brand into new premium segments.

And honesty it reminds me of quite a few Hyundai/Mazda concepts.

The new Infiniti Q30 will be launched in the next two years and sit in a niche that brand boss Andy Palmer describes as being “between the Audi A3 and Audi Q3”. It is believed that this will be made possible by a new three-way adjustable ride height system.
The car was previewed by the Etherea concept at the Geneva motor show in 2011 and was described at the time by its maker as a four-door coupé. Infiniti’s willingness to cross established car segments follows the example of parent company Nissan, which has enjoyed sales success with the Qashqai and Juke crossovers.
However, Palmer said the Infiniti was “not a copy of the Nissan Qashqai, but a car that can span established brackets within the market”. He added that Infiniti will strive to differentiate itself from the established premium brands using styling. “Infinitis should be more evocative than the establishment,” he said.
Palmer added that there are no plans to create a new flagship saloon larger than the current M, a BMW 5-series rival. “The 7-series market is declining, so we’re more likely to follow the trend to smaller vehicles,” he said. “Before we can do that, however, we have to build our brand cachet in other areas.”http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/fr...ncept-revealed

So basically it will be based on Renault platform, with Renault engines and with Infiniti body style and interior.
