B&O in A8 ?
i wonder how good this system is going to be, compared with the 'best' of today, the Mark Levinson in LS 430. This just steps up the game ... compared to the Harman Kardons and Bose in other cars.
Bang & Olufsen develops exclusive audio system for the Audi A8
On 1 March 2005, Torben Ballegaard Sørensen, CEO at Bang & Olufsen, and Dr Vinterkorn, CEO & Chairman of the Board of Management at Audi AG, shook hands at the Geneva Motor Show. This was the public unveiling of a substantial cooperation between Bang & Olufsen and Audi, which places an exclusive Bang & Olufsen audio system in the Audi A8.
Press conference at the Geneva Motor Show
Torben Ballegaard Sørensen and Dr Vinterkorn presented their respective companies’ partnership at a press conference held in connection with the Geneva Motor Show, and revealed that the Audi A8 with the exclusive Bang & Olufsen audio system can be seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show this Autumn.
The sound distribution and stereo image are perfect, no matter where you sit in the Audi A8, and the sound level matches the best high-end stereo systems for the home. The system consists of two moving acoustic lenses mounted in each side of the instrument panel. The lenses are designed to fit in the exact location of the original Audi drivers.
About the audio system
With 14 additional high-end loudspeaker units, each individually controlled and powered by its own amplifier, the acoustic performance is uncompromising. The sound system expresses a radical synthesis of emotional appeal and technological performance; an ambition that has been the hallmark of Bang & Olufsen for decades. (1,100 watts of power through 14 speakers)
All speaker drivers are custom-made for this purpose and mounted in moulded plastic cabinets utilizing the pressure chamber technology. This way the same conditions are maintained for all the individual drivers under all circumstances. A further benefit of using pressure chamber technology is that the sound emitted to the exterior of the car is minimal thus allowing for maximum privacy within the vehicle.

Also please keep in mind that the best ML system is no longer the one in the LS, but in the new GS. The ML system in the LS, with 7 channels, 11 speakers, 240-watt output and a mere 8-inch subwoofer, is simply no match for the 2nd-gen ML system in the GS, with 11 channels, 7.1 surround sound support, 14 speakers, 330-watt output and a new 10-inch subwoofer.
