5 speed help?
hey fellow lexus owners,
so I have a 98 sc400 and Ive been doing research but unless my Asian eyes deceive me, which happens frequently so excuse me if they did, I haven't really seen many of the vvti 1uz's being converted to 5 speed.all the mechanical parts seem straight forward but my question is would this conversion require any extra electrical work other than whats stated?? so can I just follow the non vvti builds with no issues?
thanks for the input.
alex

Refer to threads by Cartmill regarding his 1998 SC300 VVT-I W58 5-speed swap. Same methodology for the 98-00 SC400 VVT-i's.
Among several things you'll need to do, a big one is physically removing the shift solenoids from the 5-speed automatic and strapping them somewhere secure under the car and plugging them into the body harness again. This way the ECU gets the signals it wants.
Neutral and reverse signals also need to be wired in a certain way to trick the ECU.
