I love the Obsidian, but as we all know the black doesn't look great under the sun with any imperfections.
Sadly, Forever "ain't gonna happen" on OB paint. It will always require special care.

-First

We should all thank Zach for his assistance and highly informative (as always) posts.
It shows that he has a true passion for the craft and takes pride in his finished results.

-Second

Obsidian Black looks awesome when someone knowledgeable corrects the paint.
As Zach mentioned, OB is a VERY soft paint that takes specialized skills to restore.

-Third

Proper maintenance (this means you PirelliGS) [grin] is key to keeping it that way.
Never ever drive an Obsidian Black painted vehicle though a "Tunnel O' Swirls".
This includes letting the $tealership "wash your car" when you have service done.

Washing is the most common step that introduces new fine scratches in the paint.
I recommend at minimum the Two Bucket Wash Method and some of its variations.
Three Bucket Method - Third bucket and mf towels to be used ONLY for the wheels.
Towel Only TBM - Soapy bucket with mf towels that are only used once per section.

You can not use microfiber towels that you buy at WalMart or the auto parts store.
I've even seen some "very high quality" microfiber towels install new fine scratches.
For a Quick Detailer towel I'd suggest a super soft towel like the "Crazy Pile" towel.

Very important question!

Also an important question.

It sounds like you made a wise choice.

I'd go with Zach's detailer recommendations. Please let us know the outcome.

Im looking for a great place in Houston. I polished my Obsidian yesterday and garaged it immediately. I'm scared to even take it out!

There are significant swirl marks all over trunk and 3/4 quarter panel
Rest of car is ok but there are marks

Needs polish
And paint correction

Your paint is certainly in need of some love... the good news is that the majority of that can likely be removed.

Here's an example of some hammered paint....

A 3 step correction process yielded dramatic results...

The car was coated with a ceramic coating and looked like a completely different vehicle when it was completed.

We had about 25 man hours into this one, and completed the job for $1500.

If you wanted to learn more about machine correction, you could surely make a dramatic improvement on your own... on the other hand, if you'd like a professional to handle it, just be sure you go with someone who is recognized as being a true professional in the paint correction industry and they'll surely be able to make your baby look like new again.

Let me know if you've got any questions or concerns.

Thank you

Chris brown at ocdcare I contacted in Pasadena

I will show him the car this week

I do want to learn
Not sure if I can tackle it on my own but if you have recommendations on doing it I can try first and if it doesn't work I can have chris do it ?

I imagine using a rotary buffer on this might be a must and I may not skills for that ?

Additionally on my other cars I like doing a wuick detail after each drive so not needing a car wash since I am in la

Do you have microfiber/quick detail spray recommendations? Been using same stuff for 7 years and willing to make a change
