Switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Ultra
Walmart was out of old reliable Mobil 1 and I wanted to get an oil change done. Plenty of other choices were available so the easiest thing to do was to make one. Pennzoil Ultra looked good so I bought it and the oil change is done.
Has anyone else used Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum and have you been satisfied? I change the oil every 5k on the 02 UL w/ 70k. I've used M1 since I got it at 50k (and on the LS400 before that). I tend to think the most important factor is the regular change with fresh oil.

I ran a Wally jug of Ultra in my LS when Valvoline was sold out. Noticed no difference in the car, then went back to Valvoline. Both oils where pretty clear at 7k. I will use like 1/2 qt or less, odo is 160k.
Syn oil is pretty price stable for last 10 years compared to dino oil where I remember quarts for often a buck or much less,69 cents even.
Fresh oil, keepin her clean and top tier tires make alot of difference.

So true guys...
read info on synthetic oils, replacing your oil every 3000 miles is only a harm to our enviroment...
Synthetic oils were designed initially for jet engines or engines that operate at about 60.000 revolutions... at 20-30k revolutions replacing the oil each 3000 miles is like changing your underwear each time you pee

Pennzoil Ultra gets lots of positive reviews on BITOG forum. Its avail at Wal-mart fairly cheap and I use it most of the time for my cars. Its supposed to have a really good additive package. Mobil 1 Extended Service also gets great reviews mostly on its additive package. Both these oils at 5k interval are likely overkill OCIs but for me its typically a twice a year oil change per car so the oil and filter cost is a nit so I stick to 5k intervals.

I have always used Penzoil Platinum synthetic ever since i bought my car w/120k on the dash. I switched to Penzoil Ultra the day it came out. I change oil every 5-7k miles and im almost at 200k now.. Still going strong.
In San Antonio, Walmart is the only place i can find the 5quart jugs, every other place only has them by the quart at 9.99+
