Default Sticky/gummy trunk button

Hello all.... The trunk button on the back of my 07 ls460l seems to have "melted" in the South Florida heat. It is now a stcky black patch that feels gross when opening the trunk. I'm gonna have it looked at/replaced soon.

Has anyone out there encountered a similar problem?

Thanks

Wow, I have an 07 in Miami but havent had that problem as of yet. Sounds weird though. There are many more exterior plastic parts on the LS that would have experienced the same issue as the button if the heat was the issue. One example would be the plastic piece that the rear camera is mounted on.

I live in North TX and I have a 2007 LS460. It has the "gummy" trunk button too. It has been that way for a couple of years. I am fairly confident that it was not caused by exposure to some chemical as I am the only one who washes it. Nothing comes off on my fingers and it seems to be better in the Winter. None of the other parts on my car are exhibiting any unusual texture change or tackiness.

Thanks, At least I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the issue -- freakish, strange thing. Every time i open the trunk from the back it is like pressing into chewed up gum... eeeeek.

Can't wait to get it changed, i wonder what the service rep will tell me... They always make subtle suggestions that the car is fine and the owner messed it up.. Probrably true sometimes but annoying none-the-less....

I'm in Houston, and I had the same problem - and found a simple solution.

Using a sandwich bag, I cut a square about the same size as the button (a little bit larger), applied it to the goo, and then tucked in the extra inside the metal edge around the button.

No more goo problem - and the button works fine.

Next time I take the car in for service, I'll ask them to look at it - but for now, no more goo fingers when opening the trunk...

That's weird.

Where I live the temperature hits 120 degrees during the day and has never been below 100 degrees for the past 5 months and I haven't noticed anything like that.

I wonder what the dealer will say about it when you report it to them.

I just noticed I seem to have something similar. The rubber feels sticky and it looks all cracked.

I see Microsoft mouses develop that same issue indoors. Not sure what causes it. Don't think it's heat.

My LS is in the shop for 50K maintenance. Reported the trunk button problem - the dealer indicated they will replace it under warranty.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Unfortunately for me, it is out of the warranty. Anyone did DIY on this issue. Thank you. ^ ^
